I have always known I wanted to be a doctor, and having a parallel career as a medical correspondent has allowed me to travel the world, meet fascinating people, and satisfy my insatiable curiosity.
Interests:
There isn’t much I don’t love to try. I am passionate about riding my horses and regularly compete in the discipline of dressage. When not doing the TODAY show, I try to ride first thing in the morning. It’s impossible to ride well when you’re thinking about work or problems, so this is my “zen” time and jump-starts the pace of the day.
Activities:
Other than my horses, I love to hike and knit (although I don’t knit very well). I garden a lot and can’t think of a better way to fill the weekend.
Favorite Books:
I read everything -- fiction, nonfiction, biographies, and several newspapers a day. I loved the recent biographies on Abraham Lincoln and Benjamin Franklin.
Favorite Movies:
I also see movies -- in the theater and with the help of Netflix. In fact, I always carry a movie or two to watch on my laptop every time I’m on a plane. My favorite may be All That Jazz and for me last year’s best film was There Will Be Blood.
Favorite TV Show:
Boston Legal. It’s appointment TV.
Favorite Quote:
"No matter how much women prefer to lean, to be protected and supported, nor how much men prefer to have them do so, they must take the voyage of life alone, and for safety in an emergency they must know something of the laws of navigation." -- Elizabeth Cady Stanton, 1892
