Interests:
I love my family and spending time with them, whether it is a meal, movie or conversation. Spending time with patients to figure out how to help them with their visual processing in the areas of learning, sports performance, job performance, driving safety, and rehabilitation from strokes and head injuries is something I deeply enjoy. I like to write and record music, and have even performed a song I wrote on stage with Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull during his Rubbing Elbows Tour in West Palm Beach. Recently, I finished recording my second CD for a company called Flipping For Phonics which develops story books, and I have helped put music to the story books. I play guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and I am learning to Salsa dance -- even though I’m fighting two left feet!
Activities:
I like learning about how things were invented, developed, and produced. I like history of people and places. I like to watch the History Channel. I can fix things around the house and can even do my own car repairs. I exercise regularly and would say I workout to support my eating habit! I am very excited about an internet based software system and web community I am working to develop. The program is designed to work with visual processing in the areas of vision related learning skills, sports vision skills, driving safety, brain fitness, and safety of military personnel.
Favorite Books:
The first book I remember reading and truly enjoying was The Catcher in the Rye. I first read it when I was coming of age and I couldn't put it down. Most of my reading now pertains to my career interests. The last book I read was Dr. Ken Mills’ book, Disciplined Attention: How to Improve Your Visual Attention When You Drive. Dr. Mills recently interviewed me for his new book on teen driving safety.
Favorite Movies:
The first movie I remember seeing in the theater was South Pacific. It was larger than life and I could not stop thinking about it. To this day, I still love the music. I especially like historical dramas and movies based on real people and events. In addition to historical films, some of my favorite movies are Annie Hall, The Notebook, and Diehard. I also enjoy science fiction, action, or a good mystery movie. I always know a good movie when I don't feel my butt on the seat and it goes by quickly. My most memorable movie experience was taking my Dad to see Clint Eastwood's Iwo Jima. My father was there during the war and he was not sure how he would react to seeing it. He would tell me all the things that were going to happen like the tanks getting stuck on the beaches in the volcanic sand, right as it was happening in the movie. It was an afternoon movie and the theatre was not very crowded. I remember seeing another son and father there, and I imagined that his father might have been there too.
